Tesla has had a long history of well-publicized issues with the paint quality on its cars. Owners at times have complained their cars were delivered with part of the paint missing, having dirt particles underneath the paint, and overall just not being on par with what’s expected from a luxury vehicle.

Responding to this, Elon Musk has promised to bring online the most advanced paint shop in the Berlin Gigafactory. And now, thanks to twitter user @gigafactory_4, we get our first look at this cutting edge paint shop coming together.

For the revolutionary paint shop, Tesla has partnered with a company called Geico Teiki-Shai. This is a company based in Millan, Italy. According to its website, the company specializes in “turnkey solutions for auto body paint shop”. Meaning they work in every step of building a paint shop.

And some of the few breakthroughs the company highlights are. A 70% reduction in energy consumption, cutting down installation time for a new plant, 30% renewable energy use, and eliminating water waste.

All of the breakthroughs suggest, the paint shop in the new Berlin Gigafactory, is going to be a fast-paced, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly plant. In addition to this Elon Musk has also said, cars from Giga Berlin will have more layers of stunning colors that subtly change with curvature.

Overall Tesla’s Gigafactory in Germany is shaping up to be an innovation center for the company. From the Lego-style manufacturing of the factory to the promised revolution in automotive manufacturing and revolutionary paint shop. We can’t wait till the factory starts production in early 2021 and we see the first Model Ys roll off the line.
