The Waukee Community School District is temporarily moving some of their students to learning online.
In an email sent to families and staff this weekend, the district said the Prairieview School and Waukee Middle School will be learning online between Monday and Friday. All extra curricular activities, including athletics and co-curricular activities, will not take place during this week.
This decision comes rising coronavirus cases. The district worked with the Dallas County Health Department.
On Monday, school board members are expected discuss plans to submit a waiver to the Iowa Department of Education to expand online learning past Nov. 13.
As of 11:15 a.m. Friday, the district had 68 students and 11 staff members test positive for COVID-19. The district said 387 students and staff are currently isolating or quarantining themselves as advised by the county health department. District nurses are monitoring 577 other individuals in the schools, leaders said.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, Dallas County has an 18% positivity rate average over 14 days as of Sunday.
